**Introduction:**
Children should be taken out for walks since a young age. As spring transitions into summer, with a weekend approaching and the weather being pleasant, it’s the perfect time to set off. Choosing an excellent family resort hotel is especially important!

**Destination:**
After much consideration, I finally chose the **Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel** near the ancient town of **Zhujiajiao**. The family-friendly hotel is suitable for a family of three, and the rarity of allowing pets to stay makes it even more appealing.

**Travel Companions:**
I invited a friend’s family, a total of six people and two pets, and we drove to Qingpu District in a small car!

**Getting There:**
The **Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel** is located on the Mao River in Qingpu Zhujiajiao and is a historic island. As spring transitions into summer, the island is lush with vegetation, shaded by green trees, and full of vitality, providing a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.

We started from downtown Shanghai, took the Yan’an Elevated Road to the outer ring road, then turned onto the Shunsong Highway and Shenzhuan Highway, arriving at Sun Island in about an hour.

**Accommodation:**
The check-in lobby and villa area of the Sun Island Resort Hotel are separate; after completing the procedures, one can either drive or take a shuttle bus within the island to the rooms.

The villa area is quite large, with lush vegetation, adjacent to the Mao River, and walking through it feels like wandering through a secluded path.

We booked the most distinctive family villa on Sun Island, which was introduced as a standalone villa with 120 square meters, three bedrooms, and one living room. Upon arrival, we found it to be very spacious indeed.

**Villa Features:**
The interior soft decoration features cartoon themes that children love, with a living room equipped with a large Monopoly game carpet, Lego wall, and various toys. The most interesting feature is the inter-floor slide and trampoline climbing net inside the villa, which the children absolutely adore.

Each of the three rooms has its own washbasin and bathroom, with a playful crab bubble machine that allows the baby to play while taking a bath, making the process surprisingly smooth.

On the second floor of the villa, in addition to the bedrooms, there is a characteristic Japanese tatami mat where the children can sleep side by side, with the two children playing and fighting, which makes it quite worry-free for us parents.

**Dining:**
After settling our luggage, it was almost lunchtime, so we chose the Waterfall Western Restaurant on the first floor of the hotel’s front hall. We were not very hungry after a filling breakfast, so we ordered a special children’s meal for our daughter, with children’s utensils, freshly made burgers, and juices, which were very popular.

My husband and I tried the new ‘Dirty Milk’ dessert, made with fresh milk and fruit, which was very refreshing on a late spring day.

**Pet Paradise:**
After lunch, we took Wang Xiaoer (our silly dog) straight to the pet paradise. Before we reached the place, we saw various parents with their dogs, and our silly dog was extremely excited.

The pet paradise is divided into indoor and outdoor areas; indoors, dogs can enjoy afternoon tea, play on climbing frames, and in the ball pit, while outdoors, there is a large grassy area for letting dogs run free, and they can even swim in a professional pet swimming pool.

It’s worth mentioning that Sun Island offers pet boarding and training services, with professional dog trainers who can help dogs correct bad habits and learn some skills. Wang Xiaoer was boarded here for an afternoon; the little guy was timid and kept barking, but the staff were very patient, even giving him biscuits and yogurt, which was super nice.

**Dinner:**
For the first day’s dinner, both families tried the small hot pot, with one pot per person, and the set meal included vegetables, meat, fish, and shellfish. The pork bone broth was thick and flavorful, and we heard that the vegetables were organically grown on the island, which were very crisp and refreshing. Together with the meat and seafood, it was more than enough to eat.

If you’re still hungry, you can add a staple food dish with unlimited servings.

**Breakfast:**
The breakfast on the second day was enjoyed in the hotel’s buffet restaurant, which deserves high praise forAfter breakfast, we took our daughter to go horse riding. At first, she was a bit afraid of the large horses. However, when the staff brought a Shetland pony for her to ride, she immediately fell in love with it. Protective gear is worn before mounting, and the staff lead the horse during the ride to ensure safety and a joyful experience for the child. We noticed many children learning professional equestrian skills at the riding arena, which looked very impressive.

There are many places on the island suitable for children to play. We chose to start at the Craftsmanship Pavilion where we could do some hands-on crafts with the guidance of a teacher and a toolkit. We selected a clay pottery project and a leather bag, and both of them were successfully completed!

By May, the weather is quite warm. The Mermaid Wharf area has gathered many people, making water sports a popular activity. Our family of three rented a water bike and enjoyed a leisurely and pleasant ride. Finally, we took the Mermaid Train, which is also at the Mermaid Wharf. The train is composed of blue and white colors, with vibrant paintings on both sides, full of childlike innocence. It stops at three stations throughout the day: the hotel lobby, the Mermaid Wharf, and the small green space. With a ticket, you can ride all day and enjoy the scenery of the island and a relaxed mood.

Every journey at the Shanghai Sun Island Resort is an exploration of the rare moments in life. Children sometimes act clingy and want to be held, which is a result of the lack of parental companionship in busy work. Subsequently, they become independent and bravely seek out their own happiness and face challenges. In summary, the Sun Island family trip is a worthwhile experience and highly recommended.
