#### Arrival and Accommodation

**Posted on August 7, 2011 at 08:18**

I boarded at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport on April 25 and arrived at Shanghai Pudong Airport. After reaching Pudong Airport at 17:00, I took Metro Line 2 and got off at Nanjing East Road. I checked in at Shanghai Captain Youth Hostel (Yan’an Road Branch), conveniently located at No. 37, East Yan’an Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. The hotel’s proximity to various attractions is a bonus, being only 0.5 kilometers from People’s Square, 15 kilometers from Hongqiao Airport, 5 kilometers from Shanghai Railway Station, and 25 kilometers from Pudong International Airport. Tel: 021-63235053.

#### Exploring Shanghai

After settling in, I walked to the Bund to immerse myself in the atmosphere of Shanghai as an international metropolis. The Bund’s prime location offers a quick walk to Nanjing Road, People’s Square, and Yu Garden. The China Pavilion, after the closure of the World Expo, is set to reopen on December 1 for a half-year extension, with further extensions to be decided based on the situation.

#### Public Transportation and City Highlights

Applying for a public transportation card at the subway is extremely convenient for navigating the city. On April 26, I started my day at People’s Square, a commercial center with over ten large shopping malls, including Hong Kong Famous Store Street, Dimei Shopping Center, and Raffles City.

#### Cultural and Historical Sites

**Old City God Temple — Yu Garden**: Easily accessible via Metro Line 10, Yu Garden Station, the Old City God Temple is a must-visit. **Zhongshan Park**, served by Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4, is home to several shopping centers, with Longdream Shopping Center being a standout.

#### Entertainment and Leisure

**The Bund Sightseeing Tunnel** operates from 09:00 to 21:30 and is an optional experience for those interested. For a trip to Lujiazui, take Metro Line 2 to Lujiazui Station or enjoy a ferry ride from the Bund Pujiang Wharf at the Sixteen-Pier for just 2 yuan. **Happy Valley**, accessible by Metro Line 9 to Sheshan Station, is the largest and most technologically advanced theme park in the area.

#### Final Thoughts

On April 27th, a visit to the Bund is a must, both during the day and at night, to truly appreciate Shanghai’s grandeur. The buildings along the Pu River, housing banks and other institutions, are open for visits during operating hours. Notably, the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank features a lobby with eight murals, each depicting the architectural styles of eight cities and 24 mythological animal images.

This day-long adventure through Shanghai offers a glimpse into the city’s rich history, culture, and modernity, making it an unforgettable experience.**Shanghai Attractions and Itinerary**
