Shaoxing Museum is located in the Yuewang City Historical and Cultural Protection Area on the west side of Shaoxing Ancient City. Although it is not large in scale, it is quite rich in content. If you wish to gain a general understanding of the historical evolution of Shaoxing, spending an hour to savor it carefully will be rewarding.
The main exhibition hall of the museum is designed in the shape of the Jiyue Bronze House, a cultural artifact unearthed in Shaoxing, with the rest of the buildings featuring green vegetation flat roofs and Shaoxing Donghu bluestone exteriors. A bronze ancient sword sculpture stands in the square in front of the museum, serving as an ideal background for tourists to take photos and commemorations, while also containing rich cultural connotations. The museum’s permanent exhibitions are divided into sections such as the Rise of the Great Yue, Building Cities and Capitals, and Civilizing the People through Rites and Music, displaying artifacts mostly from the Wu-Yue period, including a replica of King Goujian’s sword, narrating the history of Yuezhou. There are paid professional guides available at the museum, costing approximately 50 yuan per session, with a duration of about 45 minutes. Additionally, by following the museum’s official WeChat and entering the artifact numbers, you can directly receive audio introductions and pictures of the exhibits, which is very convenient. Opening Hours: The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-16:30; closed all day on Mondays; and open on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day, 09:00-16:30. Service Facilities: The museum offers two free guided tours daily, at 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM, waiting at the front desk service area. Guided tours in Chinese: 1-10 people 50 yuan per time, more than 10 people 80 yuan per time (limited to basic exhibitions).
