Shell Sand Beach is located on the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingdong County, approximately 39 kilometers along the Ping-Guei Highway. The bay is a place where wave energy is reduced, and the shells and corals in the nearby waters have been eroded by the tides over a long period, being crushed and ground into fine sand that accumulates within the bay. Shell fragments, coral reef fossils, and foraminifera fossil fragments account for about 98% of the beach’s content, thus forming the world-famous ‘Shell Sand Beach’.
The shell sand beach is characterized by its bright colors, crystal-clear transparency, and unparalleled beauty. This beach has now been designated as an ecological conservation area, prohibiting excavation to preserve this natural beauty bestowed by nature.
