Located 20 kilometers west of Quanjiao County, Shen Mountain National Forest Park covers an area of 2,200 square kilometers with the highest peak reaching approximately 395 meters above sea level.
The origin of the mountain’s name is uncertain, but historical records indicate that during the Tang Dynasty’s Jianzhong era, the prefect of Chuzhou, Wei Yingwu, wrote a poem titled ‘To a Taoist in the Mountains of Quanjiao.’ Additionally, the Shen Mountain Temple that still exists on the mountain confirms that over a thousand years ago, both Buddhism and Taoism competed to build temples and Taoist sites here.
Surrounded by a group of mountains, Shen Mountain is known for its deep forests and beautiful waters. Nine mountains encircle the main peak of Shen Mountain, hence the name ‘Nine Dragons Surrounding a Pearl.’ The park is characterized by its deep ravines, peculiar rock formations, and streams that flow around the mountains, with sweet springs gushing through the rocks. The environment is exquisite, and the climate is pleasant. Combining clear waters, peculiar rocks, caves, and ancient temples, it is a unique and elegant national forest park.
The forest coverage rate is as high as 90%, with vegetation mostly consisting of mixed broadleaf forests and artificial evergreen coniferous forests, housing over 400 species of trees. The main attractions include Baishi Spring, Shen Mountain Lake, Lansheng Tower, Yuxi Bridge, Xianren Cave, Tuanshan Cave, Longdong, Qingniu Cave, and the Black Stone Valley filled with pictographic Shen Mountain stones. Also present is the Shen Mountain Temple, which has been standing for over 1,200 years.
The park is open all year round from 07:00 to 16:30, with specific business conditions subject to the daily opening status.
