The Shi Ba Wo Scenic Area, also known as Jia Xi Scenic Area or Zhejiang Central Grand Canyon, is a provincial-level scenic spot in Zhejiang Province. The formation of the grand canyon is attributed to ancient orogeny, which, combined with intense topographic cutting and the long-term erosion of water, has created today’s beautiful spectacle. Within the scenic area, the nearly one-kilometer-long riverbed suddenly drops, with water cascading into pools, creating huge waves and howling through the cliffs, passing through the canyons, forming eighteen continuous dangerous whirlpools and deep pools, which are extremely spectacular. The Shi Ba Wo Scenic Area features undulating peaks, grotesque rocks, exquisite waterfalls and pools, and landscapes characterized by their grandeur, uniqueness, danger, elegance, seclusion, and antiquity. After being washed by wind and rain, it is presenting itself to the world in a more beautiful form. The mountain path leading into the Shi Ba Wo Canyon is known as Jia Xi Ancient Path. At the entrance of the path, there is a stele describing the historical significance of Jia Xi Ancient Path: it controlled the Jin Qu region above and extended to Tai Wen below, historically serving as a vital route for coastal areas to enter Zhejiang Central. Merchants and traders were constantly passing through, carrying goods in groups. It was not only an economic bond but also a military corridor. Small bridges, Jia Xi Bridge, Jia Xi Fort, and the site of the Qi Jia Army camp are all strategic points, with troops stationed during the Ming and Qing dynasties. During the Xianfeng era of the Qing dynasty, a large Taiping Army force moved along this path to Tiantai. The opening hours are from 07:00 to 17:00 all year round.
