Shigong Mountain is located at the southeastern end of Xishan Island. Surrounded by water on three sides and backed by a cluster of mountains on one side, the mountain is full of lush cypress trees. It is like a green snail lying on the water and a jasper floating on the lake. The scenery is extremely beautiful and can be called a fairyland on earth. Regarding the origin of the scenic spot’s name, there is also a very interesting story.
Legend has it that there were two strange rocks by the water at the foot of the mountain before. They looked like an old man and an old woman. People vividly called them Shigong and Shipo. Thus, this mountain is named Shigong Mountain. Shigong Mountain is not high, with an altitude of only 50 meters. There are no precipitous mountain landscapes here, but there are scenes of jagged rocks and towering undulations. There are pavilions and towers on the mountain, scattered at different heights. There are landscapes such as Guiyun Cave, Fuyu Beitang, Laihe Pavilion, Duanshan Pavilion, Yixiantian, and Mingyuepo. The lake and mountains are all picturesque. On the southwest lake surface of Shigong Mountain, the remaining veins of Tianmu Mountain can be vaguely seen, constituting a magnificent scene of islands within islands, lakes within lakes, mountains outside mountains, and skies beyond skies, attracting countless tourists at all times and from all over the world.
