Shikumen is a residential house with Shanghai characteristics. The old alleyways in Shanghai are generally shikumen buildings. This kind of building has largely absorbed the styles of residential houses in the south of the Yangtze River. With stone as the door frame and solid thick black lacquered wood as the door leaf, this kind of building is thus named ‘shikumen’. Shikumen in Shanghai are mainly concentrated in Huangpu District and Jing’an District. The shikumen at Lane 96, Shaoxing Road is one of the relatively well-preserved shikumen in Shanghai. Many movies and TV dramas that depict old Shanghai themes like to come here to take exterior shots. The residents here have seen a lot. When they see people running around in the alleyways with cameras on their shoulders, they are not surprised at all and look calm and composed. It seems that the cultural atmosphere on Shaoxing Road has permeated their bones.

Opening hours: Open all day throughout the year.
