Shizhou Lake, also known as Beihu, is a boundary lake situated among Lishui District and Gaochun District of Nanjing City in Jiangsu Province, and Dangtu County of Ma’anshan City in Anhui Province.
It shares an inseparable connection with the Qinhuai River, belonging to the same water system. The lake is abundant in fish, shrimp, aquatic vegetables, and other water products, which have been an essential source of income for the villagers living along the lake since ancient times. It is the livelihood support for the people of Jinling, hence it is also referred to as ‘Little Kenting of Nanjing, Little Kamakura of Gaochun’.

The poet Li Bai, who visited this place, composed a special poem about it, which goes, ‘The lake is in motion with the primal energy, the smoke and waves are vast and hard to cease, turtles swim on lotus leaves, and fish play among the reeds.’
