Shou’an Temple is one of the four ancient monasteries on Chongming Island.

Originally built during the Song Dynasty’s Chunyou period, it has a history of over seven hundred years.

In its prime, Shou’an Temple was acclaimed for its picturesque setting with the description ‘temple surrounded by green mountains, and pavilions amidst clear waters’.

However, due to wars and pirate invasions, its former grandeur was destroyed.

The existing Shou’an Temple, rebuilt in 1983, features not only the main structure, the Mahavira Hall, but also the Trinity Hall, which has a unique charm.

Opening times: 07:00-17:00 all year round; 07:00-16:30 all year round.
