Shuangfeng, named after the temple and thriving due to its teachings, has a history of nearly 1700 years and is known as the ‘millennium ancient town, the blessed land of Shuangfeng’. It is the hometown of Chinese folk art dragon and lion dances, with archaeological discoveries of Liangzhu culture sites. The main attractions include Shuangfeng Temple, Yu Huang Pavilion, Shanggan Bridge, and Weixin Site.

Shuangfeng Temple: A thousand-year-old temple. According to historical records, the name of Shuangfeng Town originates from Shuangfeng Temple. The temple was first built during the Jin Dynasty, more than 1600 years ago. It is said that during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, monk Zhidun found two stone turtles while digging to build the temple, which immediately turned into two phoenixes and flew away, hence the name Shuangfeng Temple.

Located on the outskirts of Taicang City, a ribbon-like river embraces Shuangfeng Temple, with the Yudai Bridge built across the river at the entrance, and the archway with the inscription ‘Good Buddha and Stop’ is visible upon raising one’s head. Inside the temple, the Hall of Heavenly Kings and the Mahavira Hall stand in sequence, with the Hall of Ksitigarbha and the Hall of Guanyin on the left and right respectively.

The backyard includes monk’s rooms, meditation halls, and a special place for visiting lay Buddhists to rest. Weixin Site: Known as the ‘root of Taicang,’ Weixin Site fills the gap in the primitive culture of Taicang. The discovery of Liangzhu culture and Maqiao culture at Weixin Site has pushed the verifiable history of Taicang back about 4500 years. The Weixin Site protection project covers an area of more than 15,000 square meters, with an exhibition hall area of 630 square meters.

The north area of the site combines the original ecological environment, living scene landscapes, and artifacts unearthed from the site to vividly reproduce the primitive culture of Taicang 4500 years ago. The style of the exhibition hall is simple and natural, integrating protection display, popular education, and tourism development. Through ‘excavation area’, ‘settlement area’, ‘agriculture area’, and ‘fishing and hunting area’, visitors can experience the intimate, natural, and lively local customs of Taicang.

Shuangfeng Dragon and Lion Exhibition Hall: Located in Shuangfeng Yipin Food Street, it is the only dragon and lion exhibition hall in Taicang. The hall displays nearly a hundred pieces of dragon and lion products in different colors and sizes, including lanterns, lions, and dragon heads. In addition, the exhibition hall also presents the historical origins and evolutionary development process of Shuangfeng dragon and lion culture to visitors through pictures and text descriptions.
