Shuanglin Town has a long history and is one of the famous ancient towns in the water towns of Jiangnan. According to the excavation and research of the ancient cultural sites of Hongcheng and Huacheng nearby, as early as three or four thousand years ago, ancestors lived and multiplied here. In the Han and Tang dynasties, it had become a village named Donglin. During the Southern Song Dynasty, merchants from the north migrated south with the Song court and settled here, so it was also called Shanglin. In the third year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1405), it was merged with Xilin Village two miles to the west and renamed Shuanglin Town, which has been in use ever since. It now belongs to Nanxun District, Huzhou City. Shuanglin Ancient Town, rooted in the water environment, is a human settlement and economic network space between the countryside and the city. Although the ancient town area has been renovated a lot in successive urban constructions, the old town site remains unchanged. The area still retains the unique water network system, street pattern and traditional architectural style of water towns in Jiangnan. The east and west market rivers passing through the town, the rice shops, Gangbei, Xidang, Baqiao and carpenter lanes built along the river, the oil mill lane, Caiyuan lane, Jiusi lane and ancient alley dwellings such as Yongpingli, Tianchengli and in front of Lu Mansion beside the river street constitute the basic framework of the space in the ancient town area. It still relatively completely reflects the environmental characteristics of the ancient towns in water towns in Jiangnan where ‘heaven and man are one’, exuding the original flavor of life and various historical and cultural information. The specific business status of opening hours is subject to the opening situation on the day.
