The site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China is at No. 76 Xingye Road (formerly No. 106 Wangzhi Road), Luwan District. On July 23, 1921, Mao Zedong, He Shuheng, Dong Biwu, Chen Tanqiu, Wang Jinmei, Deng Enming, Li Da, Li Hanjun, Liu Renjing, Zhang Guoteng, Chen Gongbo, Zhou Fohai, and Bao Huiseng, who was appointed by Chen Duxiu, representing more than 50 Party members across the country, held the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China here. The venue was in the downstairs parlor. A conference table was placed in the middle. The seats were not fixed for each person. The representatives reported on their work here and discussed the Party program and future practical work. Due to the interference of detectives from the French Concession police station, the representatives moved to Jiaxing, Zhejiang. On the last day (on July 31, the meeting continued on a cruise ship on Nanhu Lake), the Party program and resolutions on the Party’s tasks were passed, and the central leadership was elected,宣告了 the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The Shanghai site is a shikumen house with one upper and one lower floor. This shikumen building was built in 1920. At that time, it was the residence of Li Hanjun, a representative of the Shanghai Communist Group, and his elder brother Li Shucheng. The congress was held in the downstairs living room of Li’s residence.

After the founding of New China, the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government restored the original appearance of the site after investigation and verification and established a memorial hall at the site. In 1961, the State Council announced it as a national key cultural relics protection unit.

The memorial hall also has auxiliary exhibition rooms, displaying documentary materials from the founding period of the Communist Party of China. The memorial hall of the site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China has three auxiliary exhibition rooms, storing nearly 200 precious revolutionary documentary materials and historical documentary materials, truly recording the historical appearance of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The first exhibition room introduces the historical background of the founding of the Communist Party of China through photos, charts and materials. The second exhibition room focuses on introducing the activities of communist groups in various regions. There are more than 70 photos, documents and charts in the exhibition room, recording the activities of communist groups in various regions. The third exhibition room shows the whole process of the birth of the Communist Party of China. There are relevant historical pictures and precious materials on display in the room.
