Siwai Pavilion is one of the landmarks in the heart of Yangzhou, located in the middle of the road, 350 meters north of Wenchang Pavilion, with a complete range of entertainment and dining options around. The pavilion features eight sides and three levels, and unlike Wenchang Pavilion which is painted white, its walls are constructed with blue bricks. The building is not illuminated on most nights.

Siwai Pavilion was originally built in the 38th year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1559 AD), and it was once part of Jiangdu County School. Later, it served as a watchtower for the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’s army, witnessing the brutal battles between the Taiping Army and the Qing Army.

The first floor of Siwai Pavilion has doorways on all four sides, but currently, all four doorways are fenced off and cannot be entered for visits. The area surrounding Siwai Pavilion to Wenchang Pavilion is home to many shopping centers and restaurants, with convenient transportation access. Siwai Pavilion Road, where the pavilion is located, is itself a commercial and food street. Walking 250 meters west leads to Huaihai Road Food Street; walking 800 meters east leads to the Dongguan Street Historic District, where Yangzhou’s specialty snacks and tourist souvenirs gather; and walking 500 meters north brings you to the Ye Chun Tea House in Ye Chun Garden for morning tea, which is only 400 meters away from Slender West Lake.

Due to its location not at the main street intersection like Wenchang Pavilion and the lack of illumination most nights, Siwai Pavilion’s fame is slightly less than that of Wenchang Pavilion. It is open all year round, available 24/7.
