The Songhu Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall is located within Linjiang Park, Baoshan District, Shanghai. Visitors can learn about two significant battles that took place in Shanghai during the Anti-Japanese War, namely the ‘January 28th’ and ‘August 13th’ Songhu battles, as well as the 14-year resistance history of the people of Shanghai. The memorial hall is situated near the Yangtze River and close to the mouth of the Wusong River, which was the site of the former Baoshan County and the main battlefield for the Songhu battles. The memorial hall primarily consists of exhibition areas and a commemorative tower. The exhibition area is divided into three levels; the first and second levels mainly present the history of the Songhu battles through text and images, supplemented by artifacts and virtual scenes, showcasing stories such as ‘The Volunteer Army’s Retreat from the Seawall,’ ‘Shop Clerks’ Selfless Sacrifice,’ ‘The White-Clad Warriors of Luodi Town,’ and ‘The Martyrdom of Young Hero Fangta.’ The first level also features an art exhibition of anti-war paintings by artist Zhang Mingcao and a film screening room, while the auxiliary exhibition on the second level displays the atrocities committed by the Japanese army in Shanghai. On the third level, one can view a large photo exhibition of the anti-Japanese armed struggle of the people in the suburban counties of Shanghai. Above the fourth level of the exhibition hall is the tower of the commemorative tower, where the eleventh level houses a viewing room accessible by elevator, offering panoramic views of the Yangtze River estuary and an overview of Baoshan District. Adjacent to the memorial hall are the Songhu Anti-Japanese War Battlefield Monument, the ‘Songhu Anti-Japanese War Civilian and Military’ large-scale sculpture, and the ‘Songhu Spirit’ long scroll stone carving theme wall, among other artistic works.
