Nestled in the ancient city of Suzhou, known as ‘Paradise on Earth,’ Soochow University is a prestigious institution recognized as part of China’s ‘211 Project’ and one of the first universities identified under the ‘2011 Plan.’ It is a comprehensive university in Jiangsu Province with its main predecessor being the Dongwu University, established in 1900. The university currently has five campuses, including Tianci Zhuang Campus, East Campus, North Campus, Dushu Lake Campus, and Yangcheng Lake Campus, with Tianci Zhuang Campus serving as the main campus.
Soochow University’s main campus exudes a strong sense of history, with its old-style buildings attracting visitors, including the famous Red Building and Clock Tower, which house the School of Mathematical Sciences and the President’s Office. The typical tour route for visitors includes the university’s main gate, clock tower, Zishi Hall, Sima De Sports Gymnasium, Jingzheng Hall, Red Building, and Wenxing Pavilion.
In spring, the campus is adorned with blooming flowers, while in autumn, the ginkgo leaves create a picturesque scene. The campus also features the Soochow University Museum, which is worth a visit. Outside visitors can make appointments for guided tours, with visiting times subject to the scheduled appointment.
