After passing the Sanzhao Cave and ascending along the stone steps, there is a hexagonal pavilion on the mountainside. This is the Spectacular Pavilion built during the Tianshun period of the Ming Dynasty. The name of the pavilion is taken from the poetic meaning of Li Bai’s line ‘Ascending high and beholding the grandeur between heaven and earth’. Standing on the pavilion and looking afar, it faces south towards Iron Urn City, overlooks Guazhou to the north, adjoins Jinling to the west, and controls Haimen to the east. Looking around, one can see the white waters and green mountains. The scenery of the land is gathered here, naturally magnificent and beautiful.

There are three couplets engraved on the pillars of the pavilion: ‘The river and sky are seen in one glance, and the heart and mind are delighted to be pure on both sides’; ‘The pillar stabilizes the central flow. Here is a good place to look afar for thousands of miles. The Haimen swallows the night moon. Who can claim the autumn of the great river?’; ‘Jinshan shares this one river of water. The Queen Mother comes to seek the five-colored dragon.’ These couplets vividly depict the scenery and grandeur of Jiaoshan Mountain.

Beside the pavilion, there is a thousand-year-old cypress tree, known as the Six Dynasties cypress. It is tall and straight, natural and unrestrained. Like a delicate dragon raising its head, it stands upright between heaven and earth. For more than a thousand years, it still has lush branches and leaves, verdant and lush, forming a unique scene. A poet of the Song Dynasty once composed a poem for it: A graceful Six Dynasties pine, mostly buried by slopes and sealed by stones. Without dotting the eyes, it would fly away. In a previous life, it was originally a heavenly dragon.

Opening hours: Open all year round and all day.
