St. Michael’s Church

St. Michael’s Catholic Church, located on Zhejiang Road, was constructed in 1934 and is renowned for its grand spire, making it a famous Western-style building in Qingdao. The church’s exterior is adorned with simple yet elegant patterns, complemented by light-colored walls and a slightly pinkish red roof, creating a rich and sweet color palette that has drawn countless couples for wedding photography.
Upon entering the church, one is struck by the spaciousness and brightness. The hall soars over ten meters high, with an aisle running down the center, flanked by rows of seats and corridors on either side, each featuring two confessionals for priests to hear confessions from believers. At the end of the aisle and corridors stands the altar, above which the dome is adorned with exquisite frescoes. The church’s most eye-catching feature is its stained-glass windows, which cast a soft light throughout the space.

On Sundays, the church holds the Holy Mass, but during the service, one must remain seated quietly at the back and refrain from wandering around or making loud noises. Inside the church, there is a valuable pipe organ imported from Germany, which resembles a piano and is played only during the Holy Mass.
