The Stele of the Lady of the Supreme Sage is located on the right side inside the Dacheng Gate of the Confucius Temple in the south of the city. In order to use Confucianism to achieve the purpose of consolidating their rule, after conferring the title of ‘Dacheng Supreme Sage and Literary King’ on Confucius in 1308, the first year of Zhida of the Yuan Dynasty, the rulers of the Yuan Dynasty conferred titles on Confucius’ parents in June 1331 and on Confucius’ wife and students in September. Monuments were erected in the Confucian Temple. The stele was originally erected on the side of the halberd gate of the Confucius Temple. In 1966, it was moved to the barbican of Zhonghua Gate and now it has been moved back to its original location. Except for several cracks, the inscription on the stele is still clearly legible. This stele is one of the only three Yuan steles remaining in Nanjing. In 1982, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Nanjing. Open all year round and all day.
