In front of the Tianya Haijiao Square, on the sea surface, there lies a pair of naturally intersecting massive stone pillars. The tops are inscribed with the characters ‘Sun’ and ‘Moon’, written by Mr. Fan Jingyi, the former chief editor of the People’s Daily, hence the name Sun and Moon Stones.

They stand together, never separating, which is why they are also known as the ‘Lovers’ Stones’, symbolizing the faithfulness of love. The site is open all year round, with full-day access.
