The Suzhou Museum Ancient Books Library is located at Zhang’s Benevolent Village (No. 76 Panru Lane), adjacent to the Palace Museum Academy (Suzhou), covering an area of 1350 square meters, with a construction area of 994 square meters and a storage area of 430 square meters. Its predecessor was the Suzhou Museum’s reference room, which was established in the early 1960s. In October 2006, with the completion and opening of the new Suzhou Museum, the reference room was renamed as the Suzhou Museum Library. The ancient books and documents are primarily housed in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’s Zhongwang Mansion Library, while paperback books and periodicals are mainly stored in the new Suzhou Museum’s library. To meet the development needs of the Suzhou Museum in the new era and to better serve the public, the Suzhou Museum invested nearly ten million yuan in 2017 to renovate and upgrade the west road of Zhang’s Benevolent Village, constructing the Suzhou Museum Ancient Books Library and merging the management of ancient books and paperback periodicals. The original Suzhou Museum Library was also relocated here in its entirety. The library is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00; closed all day on Mondays; and open on National Day, 09:00 to 17:00. The specific business status is subject to the actual opening conditions on the day.
