Located at No. 38 Daru Alley, the Suzhou Pingjiang Cultural Center shares its premises with the Lan Ya Qu Yuan Theater. It is a garden-style theater, featuring courtyards and winding corridors adorned with the shadows of flowers and trees. The stage and the environment within the venue exude an air of antique tranquility, where visitors can enjoy authentic Pingtan performances.
The center boasts a rich cultural heritage, as it is also the former site of the ancient Zhaoqing Temple. Pingtan performances include a variety of solo female acts such as ‘Jasmine Flower,’ ‘Beautiful Scenery of Suzhou,’ ‘The Beauty of Taihu Lake,’ ‘Du Shi Niang,’ ‘Qinhuai Scenery,’ ‘Ying Ying Playing the Zither,’ ‘Palace Grievance,’ ‘Autumn Thoughts,’ and ‘How Much Do You Know About the Beauty of Jiangnan,’ among others. Solo male acts include ‘A Grain of Rice,’ ‘Secret Meeting,’ and ‘Dreaming of Butterflies.’ Duets feature performances like ‘Appreciating the Mid-Autumn Festival,’ ‘Recognizing Mother in the Temple,’ ‘Mooring at Night by Fengqiao,’ ‘Phoenix Hairpin,’ ‘The Legend of White Snake,’ and ‘Jade Dragonfly,’ among others.
