Suzhou True Color Art Museum

The True Color Art Museum, a non-profit art and cultural institution privately funded by Mr. Chen Hanxing and managed by a professional team, is dedicated to promoting the exploration of experimental aspects of contemporary Chinese art. It actively attempts cross-disciplinary integration across various art forms, including painting, sculpture, installation, performance art, photography, video, architecture, design, and music.
Located by the canal, the museum is built along the water and covers an area of 13 acres. The main structure is formed by three interconnected cubes, with an exterior made of over a million blue bricks in a concave-convex pattern. The grayish-blue texture gives the building a restrained yet dynamic presence, harmoniously blending with the surrounding rivers, lakes, and residential areas.

The museum has a clear functional zoning, including an entrance hall, thematic exhibition areas, a video hall, office spaces, artist studios and apartments, a member’s club, a café, and an art store. The spaces are ingeniously connected yet relatively independent, suitable for large exhibitions and thematic solo shows. The concept of environmental protection and ecology is prominently featured in the architectural philosophy, with the extensive use of ancient wood and old bricks giving the building a natural and rustic charm, where traditional elements are wonderfully combined with contemporary ideas.
