Soochow University is located in the ancient city of Suzhou, known as the “Paradise on Earth”. It is a key university under China’s “211 Project” and one of the first institutions recognized under the “2011 Plan”. As a comprehensive university in Jiangsu Province, its main predecessor was Soochow University, established in 1900. The university currently has five campuses: Tianci Zhuang Campus, East Campus, North Campus, Dushu Lake Campus, and Yangcheng Lake Campus, with Tianci Zhuang Campus being the main campus.
The main campus of Soochow University is steeped in history, attracting visitors with its old-style architecture throughout the campus. Notable buildings include the Red Building and the Clock Tower, which house the School of Mathematical Sciences and the President’s Office respectively. The typical tour route on the main campus includes the university gate, clock tower, Zishi Hall, Simard Gymnasium, Jingzheng Hall, Red Building, and Wenxing Pavilion.
In spring, the campus is adorned with blooming flowers, while in autumn, the ginkgo leaves create a picturesque scene. There is also the Soochow University Museum within the campus, which is worth a visit. The museum is open to external visitors by appointment, with visiting hours based on the scheduled appointment time.
