The Taihu Bridge starts from Xumen Yuyang Mountain in the east and extends to Xishan Datingshan in the west, spanning across Taihu Lake and connecting Changsha Island, Yeshan Island, and Xishan Island. It is composed of three sections: Bridge No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. Designed by the Bridge Division of Tongji University’s Architectural Design Institute, the bridge features a thin structure, low illumination, and jade-white decoration, seamlessly blending with the Taihu scenery. Construction began on October 27, 1992. On the late night of June 30, 1994, Bridge No. 3, which connects Yeshan Island and Xishan Datingshan and measures 919 meters with 40 spans, was the first to be completed; on August 8, Bridge No. 1, connecting Xukout Yuyang Mountain to Changsha Island and measuring 1768 meters with 73 spans, followed suit; Bridge No. 2, connecting Changsha Island to Yeshan Island and measuring 1621 meters with 68 spans, was completed later in October. The total length of the bridge is 4308 meters, with a bridge deck width of 12 meters, including a 9-meter vehicle lane and two 1.50-meter sidewalks. There are a total of 181 spans, with 45 spans navigable. Bridge No. 2 is the tallest among the three, with a main span clearance of 22.50 meters, allowing passage for seven-stem fishing boats on the lake. The bridge railing is 1.30 meters high, made of fine stone concrete with patterned railings and inlaid Ruyi patterns. A grand opening ceremony was held at 10:00 AM on October 25, 1994. The bridge is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day, with specific business hours subject to daily conditions.
