Taoxin Water Charm is located in Wuhu County, about 20 kilometers away from the urban area. The Qingyi River meanders past. Inside, there are crisscrossing canals and clear waters surrounding, forming a unique feature. In 1999, ‘Taoxin Water Charm’ was rated as one of the new ten scenic spots in Wuhu City. In 2002, the tourism trademark of ‘Taoxin Water Charm’ was registered at the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. This scenic area has the potential for further construction. The Taoxin Water Charm scenic area covers an area of 81.8 square kilometers. The water system in the area is crisscrossed and distributed in a ‘bagua’ shape, with a total length of up to 100 kilometers. According to legend, a carpenter surnamed Tao, a descendant of Tao Yuanming, moved here from Jiangzhou, Jiangxi Province. He led people to surround the embankment into an oval shape. Canals were dug according to the well-field system. The canals are connected to each other. The ten-thousand-mu water system has remained intact for thousands of years. When you are in it, it is like being in a maze. It is truly a wonder in the south of the Yangtze River. Boating in Taoxin water town, shaded by trees, with blue waves rippling, lotus leaves everywhere, and seagulls playing. The freshness and simplicity of nature are intoxicating. Xianghu Island Park is one of the main scenic spots in the embankment. There are Xianghe Pavilion, Fishing Pavilion, Qiangtao Pavilion, Zuiweng Pavilion, the Nine-bend Long Bridge and Xianghu Hotel. They add a simple and elegant charm to the natural beauty of the ten-thousand-mu water system. The historical sites in the embankment, such as ‘Tangwudu’, ‘Qingliangdu’, ‘Monk Bridge’ and ‘Memorial Archway Temple’, all have moving legends. In particular, the dragon boat race loved by the people in the water town has now become a local traditional cultural activity. During every competition, tens of thousands of people gather on the shore and the sound of gongs and drums on the water is deafening, forming another landscape of Taoxin Water Charm.
