In ancient times, the river water came from the west and split into three streams at Jinshan: Nanling, Zhongling, and Beiling. Ling refers to the water’s bend. The scenic spot is located beneath the middle water bend, hence the name ‘Zhongling’. The Tang Dynasty celebrity Liu Boshu once categorized the famous springs in the world into seven ranks. Originally, this scenic spot was in the river along with Jinshan.
After landing at the same time as Jinshan at the end of the Qing Dynasty, it was lost for a while. The water of Zhongling Spring is as green as jade, rich and sweet, and it has a magical property of ‘not overflowing when the cup is full’. It is precious and legendary.
