The First Pot Under Heaven is a remarkable sight situated in the courtyard of the Yichang Smelting Workshop, which lies within the picturesque Xizha scenic area. Upon entering the courtyard, one is greeted by an enormous iron pot that stands majestically in the center. This colossal pot towers at an impressive height of 3 meters, and its spaciousness is such that even a child sitting inside would feel comfortably accommodated. Over time, the edge of the pot has been polished to a bright sheen, making it a popular backdrop for tourists’ photographs.
In truth, the site housing this massive pot is a blacksmith workshop, as indicated by the words ‘Smelting Pot Official Furnace’ inscribed on the wall. Visitors are invited to witness the fascinating manufacturing process of ironware and, if inclined, purchase pots, bowls, pans, and other items as souvenirs.
The First Pot Under Heaven operates with a welcoming schedule, remaining open all year round from 09:00 to 22:00. For an enjoyable and safe experience, it is advised that visitors refrain from climbing on the pot and always prioritize safety during their visit.
