The Office Hall of the Salt Transportation Commissioner of Lianghuai is located at No. 251 North National Day Road, covering an area of 805 square meters with a construction area of 100 square meters. It was established during the Ming and Qing dynasties to oversee the salt affairs of Lianghuai (Huainan and Huaibei). In front of the office, there used to be a street named Yunsi Street (now National Day Road), with a memorial arch built to the north and south, and a screen wall opposite. Only the office hall remains today. The hall, facing east and sitting west, is 14.4 meters wide with three bays and features a suspended mountain structure, covered with barrel tiles. On both sides, there are character walls, and a pair of stone lions stands in front of the gate, well-preserved. The Office Hall of the Salt Transportation Commissioner of Lianghuai is the only surviving building in the history of Yangzhou’s salt economy and a testament to the prosperity of the salt merchants during the salt merchant era in Yangzhou. It is an important cultural heritage site for the application of World Heritage status for the historical sites of Yangzhou’s salt merchants and the Grand Canal. It is open all year round and accessible 24/7 for exterior viewing.
