Wuxi Film and Television Base, a subsidiary of China Central Television Media Co., Ltd. (stock code: 600088), was originally established in 1987. It covers an area of approximately 1200 acres with an additional 3000 acres of usable water area. The Three Kingdoms and Water Margin scenic area, built for the filming of the historical masterpieces ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms’ and ‘Water Margin’, is one of the earliest theme scenic areas in China that perfectly combines historical culture, film culture, and tourism culture. It is also one of the first batch of national AAAAA-level tourist attractions.
Located in an advantageous geographical position, Three Kingdoms City overlooks the vast expanse of Lake Tai and is backed by the lush and verdant Junshan Mountain, offering a picturesque natural scenery that fully enjoys the spirit and beauty of Lake Tai. The buildings within the scenic area are grand, simple, and well-arranged, with major attractions including the Palace of King Wu, Peach Garden, Ganlu Temple, Cao’s Water Camp, Zishi Street, Qingming Shanghe Street, Song Imperial Palace, and Liangshan Assembly Hall.
The brilliant performances are a highlight of the scenic area. The large-scale horse battle performance ‘The Battle of the Three Heroes against Lu Bu’ recreates the war scenes of the Three Kingdoms period with golden spears and iron horses, and the grand performance and shocking horse fighting performances have won the hearts of countless audiences. The film stunt performance ‘Fighting against Ximen Qing’ recreates the exciting story of Wu Song avenging his brother and fighting against Ximen Qing, revealing the secrets of special effects commonly used in film and television shooting, such as flying people, air combat, burning people, and pyrotechnic explosions.
There are a variety of participatory projects within the scenic area. Activities such as taking an ancient boat tour of Lake Tai, Zhuge Liang’s crossbow, the Bagua Array, and the Water Army Training Camp are full of fun and make people linger. As a famous film and television shooting base in China, it has hosted the filming of thousands of domestic and foreign films and TV dramas, including ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms’, ‘Water Margin’, ‘Emperor Tang Minghuang’, ‘Palace Words of the Ming Dynasty’, ‘The Smiling, Proud Wanderer’, ‘The Great Gate’, ‘The Legend of the Condor Heroes’, ‘The World’s Granary’, ‘The Beauty’s Calculation’, ‘The Legend of Wu Zetian’, ‘When the Flowers Bloomed and the Moon Was Full’, and ‘The Story of Minglan’.
