The site is located at Huade Road (now No. 147 Changyang Road). It was put into use in 1903. During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, local residents built a bridge on the Xihaipu near the Xihaimiao Temple, named Tilanqiao. Therefore, the place got its name. Due to the prosperous Xihaimiao Temple and the ferry to Pudong in the area, it has gradually become one of the main bazaars north of the Suzhou River.
In 1903, a large-scale prison of the Municipal Council was built on the plot between Huade Road (Changyang Road), Zhoushan Road, Kunming Road, and Baoding Road in the Tilanqiao area, commonly known as ‘Tilanqiao Prison’. The opening time is only for group visits. Individuals are not received for the time being. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on the day.Must Read
