Tiandu Peak is located on the southeast side of the Huangshan Scenic Area, facing the Lotus Peak to the west, and connected to the Bo Yu Peak to the east. It is known as one of the three main peaks of Huangshan, alongside the Bright Summit and the Lotus Peak, with an elevation of 1810 meters. Renowned for its steepness, reaching the summit allows one to overlook the magnificent panorama of Huangshan, hence the saying, ‘Climbing Tiandu Peak is a must, or the trip is in vain.’ The name Tiandu Peak originates from the ancient term ‘the capital of immortals,’ signifying a celestial metropolis. The entire mountain pierces through the clouds, with an average slope of around 70 degrees, and some parts are nearly vertical at 80 degrees. The ‘Carp’s Back’ at the summit is only a meter wide, with precipices on both sides, making it the most perilous and extraordinary spot in Huangshan. On the summit of Tiandu Peak, there is a stone carving that reads ‘Reaching the Pinnacle,’ and there is also a natural stone chamber that can accommodate hundreds of people. Outside the chamber, there is a stone resembling a drunkard reclining, named ‘Immortal Guarding the Cave Door.’ From the peak, one can gaze into the distant mountains connected with clouds, rivers, and the sea, and on clear days, one can also witness the sea of clouds. With ample time, one can also schedule to watch the sunrise and sunset according to the itinerary. Additionally, from the waist of Tiandu Peak to the summit, visitors can also see attractions such as the Hundred Steps Ladder, Squirrel Jumping to Tiandu, Jade Screen in the Sky, Boy Worshipping Guanyin, and Two Monks Paying Homage to Buddha. The mountain is divided into a southern and northern slope; the northern slope is the old path, which is about 2 kilometers from the old path entrance to the Tiandu Peak summit, and it usually takes about 1 hour to walk up. The southern slope is the new path, which is about 2.5 kilometers from the Tiandu Peak summit to the new path entrance, and it usually takes about 1.5 hours to walk down. Both old and new path entrances allow for ascending and descending the mountain. The old path entrance is located next to the Welcoming Pine at the Yu Ping Lou, and one can also take the Yun Ping Cableway from the Ci Guang Ge station to Yu Ping station and then ascend from the old path entrance. If one chooses not to take the cableway at the Ci Guang Ge station, it is also possible to walk to the Ban Shan Temple and then ascend from the new path entrance, but the walk is quite long and may take up to 2 hours, so it is recommended to take the cableway. Similarly, if one ascends directly from the old path entrance, it is advised to return the same way and take the cableway down to the Ci Guang Ge station at Yu Ping station, as the entire journey from Tiandu Peak summit to Ci Guang Ge station may take more than 4 hours and is very tiring, and the scenery on this route is not as spectacular as when ascending from the old path entrance. The opening hours are from 07:00 to 15:00 all year round, with specific business status subject to the daily opening conditions.
Must-see tips: 1. Tiandu Peak is high and the path is treacherous, with high steps and steep cliffs, requiring a high level of physical fitness for the visit. It is not recommended for those with heart disease, high blood pressure, the elderly, and young children. 2. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring your own food and water. 3. There is more rainfall in the first half of the year, so please prepare rain gear according to the weather conditions before setting out to climb the mountain. It is recommended to carry a raincoat, as the mountain is high and the wind is strong, so it is not advisable to use an umbrella.
Prepare an appropriate amount of mountaineering first aid supplies to prevent unexpected situations; it is advisable to bring a flashlight, gloves, hiking poles, and a map.
