Tianmashan Park is located about seven kilometers southwest of Sheshan Mountain and is adjacent to Chenshan Botanical Garden. Tianmashan has an altitude of about 99.8 meters and is a relatively high mountain in Shanghai. The mountain is lush with vegetation and has a quiet environment. There is the famous leaning tower, the Huzhu Baoguang Tower of the Song Dynasty. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can overlook the landform of the Sheshan area.
Compared with the famous Sheshan Mountain, there are many fewer tourists at Tianmashan. If you want to find a quiet place in the suburbs of Shanghai to climb high and visit ancient sites, Tianmashan is the place to be. Currently, Tianmashan Park only opens the east gate for entry and exit. Then, the mountain climbing stone steps all the way can directly reach the top of the mountain, and the slope is relatively gentle. The trees on both sides of the climbing road are lush. There is a bamboo forest in the west, which is very shady. However, there are many mosquitoes when climbing in summer. You can prepare mosquito repellent in advance. Tianmashan Park is not large. The whole tour takes about three hours. There is no canteen on the mountain. It is recommended to bring a small amount of dry food and water. The Huzhu Baoguang Tower is a major scenic spot in Tianmashan Park. This ancient tower built in the Northern Song Dynasty once contained relics. Originally, it was not inclined. Later, because people found coins of the Song Dynasty in the cracks of the tower bricks and continuously removed bricks to look for treasures, nearly a quarter of the brick body at the bottom of the tower was removed, causing the tower body to tilt increasingly. However, the ancient tower is inclined but does not fall. Its inclination even exceeds that of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. Now you can see a large hole in the northwest corner at the bottom of the tower. But the wooden ladder in the tower has long been destroyed in a fire and cannot be climbed. In addition, there were many historical relics distributed everywhere on the mountain. But currently, not many are still well preserved. There is an ancient ginkgo tree about twenty meters close to the leaning tower. It is more than 700 years old. Although the main trunk is almost withered, a side branch is still full of vitality. On the south slope of the tower, there is the Zhuoyue Spring, which is praised as the ‘Fourth Best Spring in the World’ by Lu Yu, the ‘Tea Sage’. Unfortunately, now the spring source is almost dried up. Only on rainy days can spring water flow out from the cracks in the stones. In the southeast of the mountain, there is the ‘Tomb of Three Noble Scholars’, which is the tomb of three literati in the Yuan Dynasty, Yang Weizhen, Qian Weishan, and Lu Juren.
