Tianmen Mountain is located in Dashengqiao Town, Jiujiang District, Wuhu City. For thousands of years, Tianmen Mountain has attracted numerous celebrities and poets from different dynasties with its unique mountain and water features, as well as its rich historical and cultural heritage. The Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai visited this place multiple times, leaving behind the well-known verse ‘Gazing at Tianmen Mountain’: ‘Tianmen Mountain breaks the Chu River, the green water flows eastward and turns here, two banks of green mountains emerge in contrast, a lone sail comes from the sun.’
Below Tianmen Mountain, there are two rare cultural landscapes. One is the historical Tianmen Academy, founded in 1246 AD, which is as famous as Gui Zhi Academy in Ji Xi, West Lake Academy in Ying Zhou, and Zi Yang Academy in She County. The other is the distinctive Tongfo Temple, which is situated against the mountains and waters, with beautiful scenery, attracting believers from all over the country to burn incense and worship Buddha for many years. Every time there is a Buddhist event, the incense is rich, and the pilgrims are like a tide. Therefore, it is rated as one of the new top ten scenic spots in Wuhu City, ‘Tianmen Smoke Waves.’ Tianmen Mountain is originally the collective name for East and West Liangshan. It is open all year round, 24 hours a day.
