The Tianmu Mountain Grand Canyon is filled with volcanic boulders, formed by glacial movements after volcanic eruptions, hence also known as the ‘Volcanic Grand Canyon’. The area has developed numerous natural landscape-based activities such as zip-lining and water swings, which are quite challenging. Although the streams within the canyon are meandering and the boulders are disordered, the good news is that there is only one walking trail, making it easy to navigate. More considerately, the scenic area has covered the trail with a canopy, so visitors won’t be exposed to the scorching sun in summer, and there’s no need to worry about getting wet in the rain.
Highlight One: Spiritual Stones – Upon entering the canyon, the first thing that greets you is a stone in the stream resembling Bajie, with facial features artificially drawn on it, giving it a cute appearance. Further along, there are other pictographic stones such as Turtle Stone and Dolphin Stone. If you observe carefully, you can find many other interesting stones in the stream. Highlight Two: Abundant Recreational Activities – Take a photo in front of the large stone inscribed with ‘The Valley is Full of Spirit’ by Jin Yong, and continue along the stream to the Water Play Pond, where most of the water-based recreational activities are concentrated. On the pond, not only can you play kayaking and walk on water swings, but you can also swim in the pond during summer. Challengers walking on the swings may sometimes be splashed by swimmers below, adding to the fun. If the weather is cooler, you can experience thrilling activities such as grass sliding and zip-lining nearby, feeling the exhilaration of speeding through the landscape. After these activities, continue forward, cross the corridor bridge, and on the other side, you can dine at Qingyi Pavilion, and also enjoy the mountain and field archery. After dining, you can visit the volcanic crater at the back, where the geological features are very unique. Opening Hours: Open all year round from 08:00 to 16:00.
