Located within the boundaries of Lin’an City, the Tianmu Mountain Scenic Area starts from Tianmu Village and ends at the South Gate Visitor Center of West Tianmu Mountain. From here, you can either walk through Chan Yuan Temple to the Big Tree King Scenic Area on the mountain or take a scenic shuttle bus towards the Glacial Grand Canyon direction to the Longfengjian Parking Lot, followed by a walk through the Big Tree King Scenic Area.
Taking the scenic bus up the mountain, the roadside vegetation is extremely lush. If you arrive early, you might occasionally witness the Tianmu Mountain shrouded in a misty fog. Starting the walk from Longfengjian Parking Lot, the paths within the scenic area essentially form a loop, with the main attractions visited in a counterclockwise direction: Sifeng Peak, Daogua Lianhua, Wushi Tongtang, Big Tree King, and Kaishan Old Hall. Among them, the scenery at Sifeng Peak is particularly impressive, where from the Yuli Pavilion at the summit, you can overlook the undulating mountains around, especially during misty weather, the view is filled with a vast and magnificent landscape.

In addition to the scenery, the Big Tree King Scenic Area is naturally known for its ‘big trees.’ Here, you can see many rare giant trees, some with diameters over 1 meter, requiring several people to embrace them. Tourists visiting in groups often take photos hugging these trees as a memento. The trees here are not only massive in shape, but their bark also displays a gradient of red, yellow, and green, with some interwoven roots exposed on the surface, covered in moss, giving a very mysterious feeling.

After completing the loop, if you still have energy, you can continue up the mountain to Xian Ren Ding, which is about 1500 meters above sea level and offers a more expansive view. However, the hiking trail here is not well-developed and can be difficult to navigate. It is not recommended to go if the weather is poor or if it is late in the afternoon. If you choose to hike down the mountain, you can do so directly from the Big Tree King Scenic Area, where you will be accompanied by streams and can also see the relics of ancient hermits who practiced here. The Chan Yuan Temple, located halfway up the mountain, although rebuilt, also has a tranquil atmosphere and is worth a visit.

If you prefer to take a vehicle down the mountain, you need to return to Longfengjian Parking Lot via the loop and on the way back, you can stop at the Glacial Grand Canyon to see waterfalls and streams. Many tourists also choose to take a chartered car to Tianmu Grand Canyon after descending, to witness more spectacular canyon views, which takes about thirty to forty minutes by car. The surrounding Tianmu Village is a well-established agritourism base with a wide range of dining and accommodation options.

The scenic area is open all year round from 08:00 to 16:00, with the last shuttle bus up the mountain leaving at 15:00. Please plan your visit accordingly.
