Tianning Pagoda, situated at the northern end of Tianning Temple, was completed in 2007 and stands as one of the landmarks of Changzhou. The pagoda features an underground palace and thirteen above-ground levels, topped with a glittering golden Vajra throne type spire. Each level of the pagoda displays different Buddhist treasures based on various themes, making it akin to a Buddhist museum. An elevator inside the pagoda can take visitors up to the twelfth floor, from where it is recommended to walk up to the top and then descend level by level for a guided tour. The pagoda’s interior, including its large columns, railings, ceilings, stairs, handrails, and thresholds, are all crafted from Phoebe wood, and the displayed Buddha statues, totems, and root carvings are exquisite. Notable features include the Dharma Realm Origin Hall on the fifth floor, carved from several tons of agarwood, the Ancient Buddha Hall on the twelfth floor, housing precious camphor wood Buddhas, and the Ten Square Harmony Hall on the thirteenth floor, which houses the ‘treasure of the pagoda’ – a natural crystal Buddha. These attractions should not be missed. At the top of the pagoda, there is a large bell weighing 15 tons and standing 118 meters high, with the ringing of the bell being an additional fee. Tianning Pagoda also serves as an excellent spot for panoramic views, offering a complete view of Changzhou city, Tianning Temple, and Hongmei Park. The pagoda is open year-round from 08:30 to 17:00.
