Tiantai Temple was initially established during the Tianjian era of the Liang Dynasty under Emperor Wu of Liang. It was reconstructed during the Zhenghe years of the Song Dynasty, where the monk Liyuan lectured on Tiantai teachings, hence the name was changed to ‘Tiantai Temple’. It has a history of over 1500 years. It is said that the temple was originally built on a grand scale but was destroyed multiple times by war. The existing structures are the results of later reconstruction efforts.
