Tianxiang Xiazhu is a garden villa that combines both Eastern and Western architectural styles, constructed in 1935 by Xi Qisheng, the owner of Xi’s Garden. Covering an area of 2400 square meters, it is divided into two parts: the residence and the garden.
The residence, located in the west, features a ‘huí’ (traditional Chinese character) shaped layout. The doors, windows, and lattices are intricately carved with patterns of flowers, ancient coins, and calligraphy by renowned literati such as Wang Xizhi and Zeng Guofan. The garden, situated to the east of the main building, is designed with mounded earth and stacked stones to create a hill, atop which stands a hexagonal pavilion, surrounded by lush greenery. Tianxiang Xiazhu is now part of Suzhou Library, and visitors are welcome to tour the site freely. It is open daily from January 1st to December 31st, from 07:30 to 17:00.Tianxiang Xiazhu: A Blend of Eastern and Western Architectural Styles
