Tianzhang Temple, a renowned Buddhist temple from the Song Dynasty in Shaoxing, has always been in the spotlight due to its special connection with the emperors of the Song Dynasty and its close relationship with Lanting and the Six Imperial Tombs of the Song Dynasty.

Constructed in the second year of the Zhi Dao era of the Northern Song Dynasty, Tianzhang Temple was specifically built for the collection of imperial calligraphy, hence it was bestowed by Emperor Taizong of Song.

In 2019, the Tianzhang Temple heritage protection area was completed and opened to the public, regaining its former glory and becoming another iconic area in the realm of calligraphy.
