Tieshan Temple National Forest Park is located in Xuyi County, Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province, and is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. Covering an area of 70.58 square kilometers, it features a 23.73 square kilometer secondary forest sea and a 9 square kilometer pristine Tianquan Lake surrounded by mountains, creating a unique microclimate environment.
Over 40 species of wild animals, more than 170 bird species, 280 tree species, nearly a thousand plants, and more than 800 types of Chinese herbal medicine thrive here, with the vast majority being edge species of the north and south, making it a natural gene bank for flora and fauna. The park boasts distinctive natural and cultural landscapes, allowing visitors to appreciate the unique natural scenery that soothes the mind, explore scientific mysteries, and experience the rich historical culture.

The park’s low mountain and hilly terrain, with its continuous mountain ranges and basalt platforms, exudes the charm of Chu and Han cultures. The colorful dense forests and clear mountain lakes add a touch of ancient simplicity and spiritual beauty to the area. While it lacks the grandeur of famous mountains and rivers, the environment offers visitors a hint and temptation of leisure and relaxation, allowing for close contact with nature.

Within the area, there are more than 290 families of over 1000 plant species, including over 200 species for ornamental purposes such as Firmiana simplex, Androsace, orchids, lilies, Aristolochia, begonias, and crabapples. There are over 800 medicinal species such as Glechoma, Codonopsis, Astragalus, Codonopsis, Platycodon, Vitex, Lonicera, Schizonepeta, Atractylodes, Pueraria, Lonicera, Alisma, and Rehmannia.
Among them, species like North Astragalus and kiwi are found in the area, with North Astragalus being rare as it is typically distributed north of the Qinling Mountains. There are over 100 fiber plants such as Boehmeria, Urtica, and Smilax, and over 400 forage species including wild oats, Miscanthus, sedges, and三菱草. Some can be eaten and have high medicinal value, making them excellent medicinal dietary vegetables.
The core area of the Tieshan Temple Nature Reserve has over 14 species of ferns. There are also over 390 species of vines, including golden dog, Cystopteris, Campsis, and Wisteria, which not only have high ornamental value but also high medicinal value.
