The Tomb of Five Martyrs is the tomb of five righteous men, Yan Peiwei, Yang Nianru, Zhou Wenyuan, Shen Yang, and Ma Jie, who died in the struggle against violence by the people of Suzhou in the Ming Dynasty. The tomb gate now faces south. In front of it is the Shantang River. The stele of ‘Aid for the Tomb of Five Martyrs’ is embedded in the wall. It was in the seventh year of Chongzhen (1634). There were 54 people who participated in the aid, including Wu Mo, Wen Zhenmeng, Yao Ximeng, Qian Qianyi, and Qu Shishen.

Behind the gate stands a stone arch with double pillars protruding. The inscription ‘Eternal Righteous Spirit’ was written by Yang Tingshu. In the middle room stands the stele of ‘Tomb of Five Martyrs’, about 2.2 meters high. It was moved here from the tomb gate during the renovation in 1981. In the east secondary room stands the stone carving of ‘Epitaph for the Tomb of Five Martyrs’ and ten stone tablets with calligraphy from the Qing Dynasty, mostly poems praising and commemorating.

Behind the hall is the tomb of five martyrs, arranged in a horizontal line. Surrounded by stone strips, it is rectangular in shape, 16.87 meters long from east to west, 6 meters wide from north to south, and 1.35 meters high. The steles with the names of five people are embedded on the front. It reopened in May 1982 for people to pay their respects. Opening hours: Open from 09:00 to 11:30 and from 13:00 to 16:00 all year round.
