Wang Xizhi’s former residence is located in Jinting Town, 25 kilometers east of Shengzhou City. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the former residence is situated in this secluded valley. Wang Xizhi’s former residence in Jinting is as respected by the world as his famous place in Shaoxing and his birthplace in Linyi. The series of buildings in Wang Xizhi’s former residence include Jinting Taoist Temple, Shusheng Hall, Youjun Shrine, Xuexi Academy, and Chan Yuan Pavilion. There are also Shusheng’s tomb, calligraphy garden, calligraphy and painting corridor, and Fanghe Pavilion. The annual calligraphy art event makes the scenic area filled with strong poetic sentiment and ink fragrance everywhere. The adjacent Huatang ancient village is the settlement of Wang Xizhi’s descendants. The high-flying eaves and hollowed-out carvings of the Wang’s ancestral hall, as well as the Oolong tail flicking at both ends of the roof, show the style of the Wang family. The long alley connects one ancient gate after another, containing the comfort and elegance of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
