On August 14, 2022, at 14:18, we set out on a family adventure despite the scorching heat. Our family of three ventured to the Shanghai Wild Animal Park, eager to observe a variety of wild animals up close.

The park is primarily divided into three distinct areas: the vehicle entrance area, the pedestrian area, and the water exploration area. Upon entering the park, we were greeted by the sight of the flamingo exhibition area. Flamingos strolled leisurely in groups, their friendly demeanor a delight to children. Before 10:30 in the morning, visitors have the opportunity to partake in a flamingo feeding activity, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Following the flamingo feeding, we headed to the vehicle entrance area in the north with our child, where we boarded a complimentary bus. This part of the park, in my opinion, is the most thrilling and unique. Unlike the typical zoo experience, the animals here roam freely, offering children a closer look at their natural behaviors. The excitement was palpable as we spotted various herbivorous and carnivorous animals. To further enhance the interaction with the animals, one could opt for a feeding vehicle. However, given the sweltering weather, we opted for the bus, listening to the informative commentary while observing the animals along the way.

After our time in the vehicle entrance area, we proceeded to the water exploration area with our child. This section of the park is centered around a large lake, with small animals residing in the surrounding area, adding another layer of fascination to our visit. The ecology at the Shanghai Wild Animal Park is very good. Taking a boat tour not only provides a great view but also offers relief from the high summer temperatures. It’s a cost-effective activity where children can feed swans right from the cruise ship.

After our water exploration, we ventured into the small animal paradise. Here, we had the chance to observe the anteater that children had been eagerly anticipating, located on the left. We then proceeded to the animal baby propaganda classroom activity, which we had reserved in advance. This was a unique opportunity to have close contact with a newly born animal baby—a lion cub in this case. The children were thrilled to take pictures with the little lion.

Next, we arrived at the lion and tiger feeding experience area, something we had all been looking forward to after watching it on live streaming platforms. Seeing the fierce tiger pounce on its food in person was an exciting and shocking experience for everyone.

In the pedestrian area of the park, there are many other exhibition areas where you can watch and feed the animals as you walk. This leisurely pace is suitable for children to play and explore. Additionally, there are many wonderful performances that children can choose to watch, but it’s important to check the performance times in advance.

Our one-day trip to the Shanghai Wild Animal Park was still great, despite missing out on some feeding projects and the relatively hot weather. The children had a fantastic time, and we all hope to return to the park next time to participate in all the activities we didn’t get to experience this time around.Looking forward to the next trip to the Shanghai Wild Animal Park.
