Tunxi Old Street is located in the central area of Tunxi District, Huangshan City. It is a famous snack street and commercial street in the city. The block is paved with bluestone roads. Huizhou-style buildings stand on both sides. Shops are opened in the houses facing the street. Most of the items sold are Huizhou specialties. The main street of Tunxi Old Street runs east-west, with a total length of more than 800 meters.
At the east end, there is an archway and a screen wall with ‘Notes on Tunxi Old Street’. At the west end is the Old Bridge (Zhenhai Bridge) at the confluence of the Hengjiang River, the Shuishui River and the Xin’an River. In ancient times, it developed due to the docks at the confluence of the three rivers and flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Now the street still has the prosperity of the past. Coming to Tunxi Old Street during the day, you can clearly see the exquisite brick carvings, wood carvings and stone carvings on Huizhou-style buildings and visit some scenic spots, such as Tunxi Museum and Wancuilou. At night, it is more lively here than during the day. Shops turn on their lights. Strings of red lanterns set off the white walls and black tiles. Bring a tripod. After eating and shopping, you can take pictures of the night view. If you want to eat delicious food, Xinsu Laohui Restaurant (No. 151, Old Street) is quite famous. You can taste the Huizhou specialty dishes, hairy tofu and stinky mandarin fish that appeared in the TV program ‘A Bite of China’. In addition, there are many stalls selling snacks along the street, such as stinky tofu, sesame seed cakes, Huimo pastries, etc. Eating while strolling is also a good choice. Huimo pastries can be bought and given to relatives and friends. The roads branching out from both sides of the main street also belong to the Tunxi Old Street block. If you don’t like shopping, walk south from the fork road and you can reach the Xin’an River. You can enjoy the river view.
