Pilu Cave, located in Youping Village, Chiyun District, Shiyang Town, 45 kilometers southeast of Anyue County, is situated on the mountain named Tazishan. The road from Anyue to Dazu passes at the foot of Tazishan. Here, the mountains are layered with greenery, and the rocks stand steep and tall, with Pilu Cave carved within these magnificent stones. Pilu Cave actually refers to a collective term for Pilu Cave, Youju Cave, Qianfo Cave, and Guanyin Hall, which currently hold 465 cliff stone carvings and 32 inscriptions. Additionally, the carvings of the fifth patriarch of Esoteric Buddhism, Liu Benzun, in Pilu Cave and Youju Cave are distinctive. Particularly impressive is the ‘Ten Trials of Cultivation’ of Liu Benzun, carved in the 6.6-meter high, 14-meter wide, and 4.5-meter deep Pilu Cave, with rigorous composition, vivid statues, and easy-to-understand content, making it a masterpiece. On both sides, there are awe-inspiring statues of Dharma protectors wielding axes and swords. Upon entering the cave, one feels a chill, which evokes a deep respect for the sanctity of Buddhism. The stone carvings of Pilu Cave are the essence of Song Dynasty Buddhist art, holding significant historical research value and scenic appreciation value. In July 2001, it was declared a fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection unit.
