Located on the hill facing the ring road in Taipa Village, Our Lady of Carmo Church is accessible via multiple roads. Follow the steps on Fat On Yip Street to find this simple and elegant three-story building with a beige exterior.
The church blends seamlessly with the surrounding gardens and houses, exuding a strong European atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for Macau residents to hold weddings and for tourists to visit. As the only Catholic church in Taipa, it was built in 1885 to facilitate the religious activities of the local Catholic community and symbolizes the arrival of the Portuguese in Taipa. The church features a small bell tower at the top, with a choir platform below. The high windows on the sides of the church allow light to filter in, creating a bright and clean interior. The main altar in the center houses the statue of Our Lady of Carmo, with two side altars dedicated to Jesus on the left and St. Sebastian on the right. A small chapel to the left of the church entrance also contains a statue of Our Lady of Carmo. The church faces the sea with a beautiful view, and in front of it, there is a park with plants, stone pavilions, stone benches, and a stone cross. On Sundays, after the church service, you can see many believers chatting in the square. The environment here is quiet and elegant, making it suitable for meditation and relaxation. The church is open all year round from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 18:00. The nave is spacious and can accommodate over 200 worshippers for services. It is said that the statue of the Virgin Mary on the altar was shipped from Europe. The church’s beautiful sea view makes it a popular spot for people to take walks and enjoy the summer breeze. Our Lady of Carmo Church
