The Wang Dao Xie An Memorial Hall is located in Wuyi Lane, on the south bank of Qinhuai River, near the Confucius Temple in Nanjing. It is a specialized exhibition hall showcasing the culture and art of the Six Dynasties as well as the family histories of the Wang and Xie clans.
Inside the hall, there are structures such as the Laiyan Hall and the Jianjin Tower, displaying precious cultural relics from the Six Dynasties period. This place was once the location of the barracks for the imperial guards of the Eastern Wu capital, Jianye, named ‘Wuyi’ because the soldiers wore black clothing. To this day, a well known as ‘Wuyi Well’ still exists within the lane. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Wuyi Lane was the residential area for the court’s high officials and nobility, with luxurious mansions lining the streets. Representative figures of the Wang and Xie families, Wang Dao and Xie An, lived here during the Six Dynasties period. The Tang Dynasty poet Liu Yuxi visited this place and composed the immortal verse: ‘By the Wild Grass and Flowers beside the Zhuque Bridge, the setting sun slants at the mouth of Wuyi Lane. The swallows that once flew before the halls of the Wangs and Xies, now fly into the homes of ordinary people.’ The memorial hall is open to the public from 09:00 to 22:00 all year round.Wang Dao Xie An Memorial Hall
