Wang Ling’s Mother’s Tomb, now one of the tourist attractions in Xuzhou, is said to belong to the mother of Wang Ling, a famous minister of the Han Dynasty. A stone stele inscribed with ‘The Tomb of the Mother of Wang Ling, the Prime Minister and Grand Commandant of the Han Dynasty’ stands in front of the tomb.
During the Chu-Han Contention, Wang Ling’s mother was abducted by Xiang Yu in an attempt to persuade Wang Ling to surrender. She chose death over submission, urging Wang Ling to serve the Han King loyally and committed suicide by sword. This act enraged Xiang Yu, leading to her being boiled alive. The tomb was erected in memory of her heroic deeds. However, archaeological surveys and explorations have only preliminarily determined that the tomb was built during the Eastern Han Dynasty, and further investigation is needed to confirm whether it truly belongs to Wang Ling’s mother. The tomb is open to the public from 8:00 to 18:00 all year round.Wang Ling’s Mother’s Tomb
