Wangkou is an ancient Huizhou village on the east line of Wuyuan. It is located on one side of a large river, and opposite is the undulating Xiangshan Mountain. Relatively speaking, Wangkou is not overly commercialized and still retains the original simple folk customs. There is a Yu’s Ancestral Hall built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty in the village. The delicate carved architecture is very worth seeing. The village is not large. It only takes about one or two hours to walk slowly. At the entrance of the village are two large camphor trees, a water-powered trip-hammer, and an observation deck. Walking inside is an ancient road along the river. The main attractions of Wangkou are all by the roadside. Walking from one end to the other can basically cover all of Wangkou. Relatively speaking, Wangkou is not so commercialized. Although there are some shops in the village, there is almost no hawking on the street, allowing people to calm down and enjoy the scenery. If you have enough time, you can also walk into the alleys by the village footpath and see more life-like old houses. In addition to the simple and elegant ancient buildings such as Yijing Hall, Maode Hall, Grand Residence, and Yangyuan Study, the Yu’s Ancestral Hall near Dongguan Bridge in Wangkou is a must-see. The ancestral hall is a Qing Dynasty building and is famous for its wood carvings. It not only has a history of hundreds of years, but also all the wooden structures inside the building are exquisitely carved and very magnificent. Tourists who come here all look up and carefully admire those intricate patterns and are filled with emotion. Walking a little further from Yu’s Ancestral Hall, you can see the rolling dam covered by houses. On one side of the dam, the water surface is like a mirror, and on the other side, the rapids are tumbling. It is also a very eye-catching landscape. The Pingduyan Drifting Pier is also nearby. You can take a bamboo raft and drift all the way back to the Xiguan Bridge near the entrance. And if you walk from Dongguan Bridge to the other side, you will find that there is a footpath leading to the mountain. There are very few tourists here. There are many ancient trees on the mountain, so you can enjoy the tranquility of nature. Looking down the mountain, you can see the green water of Yongchuan River and the bamboo rafts dotted on the water surface. The ancient village with green tiles and white walls on the opposite side is also in full view. Walking down the mountain like this will also bring you back to the entrance without having to retrace your steps. Opening hours: Open all year round from 07:30 to 17:00.
